Restoring Confidence with Lifelike Prosthetics

Restoring Confidence with Lifelike Prosthetics
Finger / Toe

Finger / Toe

We create custom fingertip, finger, thumb, partial hand, hand and toe prostheses for patients who have experienced loss of form and function due to:

  • Traumatic injury
  • Surgery—cancer or tumor removal
  • Disease—such as diabetes and scleroderma
  • Congenital conditions of the hand

Our silicone digital prostheses (prosthetic fingers or toes) are designed to protect sensitive tissue, improve function and normalize appearance. We work closely with patients to determine a prosthetic solution that will be comfortable, lifelike and maximize function.

Questions You May Have

How will a finger, thumb or hand prosthesis improve function?

Studies have shown that custom finger and thumb prostheses may provide near-normal function for patients with distal amputation. By restoring finger length, the prosthesis improves pinch force and grip and enhances oppositional function of the hand. When there is complete finger loss, we create passively adjustable fingers in a glove-style prosthesis that can assist in holding objects and making daily tasks more manageable.

Thumb prosthesis helps with hand function. Thumb prosthesis helps with grip function.

How does a toe prosthesis improve function?

Loss of even a single toe impacts gait and may be associated with foot, knee and even hip pain. A well-designed toe prosthesis can help maintain the normal position of remaining toes and improve gait and comfort by restoring normal toe length.

Traumatic amputation of the great toe, proximal. A prosthetic toe can improve foot function.
