Pediatric Grand Rounds Invited Speaker

We were honored to contribute to Pediatric Grand Rounds at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin on October 16. The title for Grand Rounds was “Put Down That Otoscope! A Primer on Congenital External Ear Anomalies.” Presenters included David Beste, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology, CHW, MCW, Sachin Pawar, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, CHW, MCW and Julie Jordan Brown, MAMS, CCA, Medical Art Resources, Inc. Dr. Beste provided an overview of relevant anatomy, embryology and patient counseling when a child is born with an external ear anomaly. Dr. Pawar discussed management of protruding ears and other ear deformities with non-surgical treatments as well as otoplasty. Surgical reconstruction for patients with microtia was described by Dr. Pawar. Julie reviewed the benefits and limitation of prosthetic restoration as a treatment for microtia showing examples of ear prostheses with attachment by adhesive as well as craniofacial implants.

All presenters stressed the importance of providing information to families as an interdisciplinary team.
